Perfect Fried Onions

This Fried Onions Recipe is an easy and simple one. Find out how to effortlessly deep-fry onions, which are most often used in a variety of dishes like biriyani, curries or korma.

I know it may be easier to buy the readymade version from the store, but I feel that as always, homemade is the best.

I also know that while it is easy to do, frying onions can be a bit time-consuming, but trust me, the end result will be a-m-a-z-i-n-g! I promise!

Plus, since they take a long time to fry, why not do them in large batches and in advance. You can always use the fried onions for your planned dish as well as a variety of others like curries, kormas or even as a side dish.

NOTE: Once fried and drained properly on paper towels, homemade fried onions will stay good for a few days if stored properly in a clean, air-tight container. Especially if you store it in the refrigerator.

Ingredients:

1 big red onion, finely sliced
1/2 tbsp salt
Oil for deep-frying

Method:

Once the onions are sliced, place them in a container and sprinkle the salt on it.
Then mix the onions and leave it to rest for 10 minutes.
The salt will help to remove the excess moisture in the onions and thus, when frying, they will be crispier.
Now squeeze as much of the excess liquid from the onions as you can.
Heat the oil and fry the onions on high heat.
Remove and drain on paper towels.
Yum!

XOXO, Jovanka
